This diet program is in the news again thanks to Kirstie Alley and her other celebrity friends who have tried it, like Valerie Bertinelli.  She’s been a spokesperson for the plan and has, herself, lost over seventy-five pounds. She even appeared in a bikini on national TV to show what the diet can help people dare to do.
Jenny Craig has been around for years but has seen a new surge in the past year or so, in part because of the celebrity endorsements, but also because it is a good program for busy people.
The plan involves teaching people the basis of good nutrition.  Learning how to view foods and what they are composed of, helps people to make better food choices and lose weight.  Members of Jenny Craig can chat with a dietician, get weighed, and receive advice at any one of a number of centers across the country.
Eating out is a favorite pastime of Americans.  At Jenny Craig, dieters are taught how to eat out and not sacrifice the weight loss and the good nutritional habits that they have discovered.
Jenny Craig also offers meals to the dieter which are calorie controlled, portion controlled, and healthy, and in part imitate a lot of what you will see in the Nutrisystem diet, for example. Our only qualms about that is many of these pre-pack meals are handy, but can be price-y, and also loaded with salt and preservatives.
Truthfully, we’ve tried them, and save the plastic containers, not only for recycle, but to make our own portioned meals to take with us, at a fraction of the cost and no control over the ingredients.
The Jenny Craig program does stress the importance of exercise along side a good eating plan.  Regular exercise will aid in the weight loss process, not to mention making the body grow stronger and healthier in the at the same time.

Carbohydrates that aren’t used for energy by the body are stored as fat.  This process occurs each day, so it is important to watch your daily calorie intake.
Green tea is also thought to block the storage of carbohydrates as fat for a short time.  When a person drinks green tea, the body allows a bigger window for the consumption of carbohydrates for fuel by the body and less gets stored as fat.
The length of time is not certain, but any help to keep fat from depositing itself on our frame is beneficial.
Green tea helps caffeine addicts take in fewer calories as well.  Green tea contains caffeine.  Coffee drinkers can have their caffeine fix without adding the milk and sugar.
Green tea is rather bitter but small amounts of sugar substitutes like Splenda® can sweeten the cup just fine.  Extra calories from coffee additives and coffee drinks are thereby avoided and in turn many will lose weight.
We don’t realize just how many empty calories we consume each day through our beverages.  One Starbuck drink measured recently actually had more calories and saturated fat than an entire Supersized Big Mac Meal!
Eliminating even half of those calories will promote weight loss.
So, have a cup of green tea with each meal if you like.  One or two cups are good to get the health benefits of the tea.

Green tea can be found in cold tea drinks and supplements also.  You can even find it in snack and meal replacement bars.  Best of all, like Hoodia, green tea can be added to any diet plan that you are currently using.

Green tea diets have been around for some time.  Like hoodia, it seems to be in all sorts of products for weight loss.
Their popularity increased once celebrities started to promote them. Now you see green tea in several products for its anti-aging and antioxidant effects, as well as for weight loss.
The Green Tea diet is not a liquid fad diet where you drink green tea morning, noon, and night to lose weight.  The properties of green tea have been shown to speed up the metabolism of the person drinking it.
It’s almost like eating a really hot pepper.  The body goes through a thermogenic reaction.  Heat is released and the body’s metabolism gets a jumpstart.  You don’t have to only drink tea to get this reaction.
The caffeine also contributes to this reaction, so in that it is not much different from many of the other over the counter weight loss medications, which are loaded with caffeine in order to curb appetite.
Green tea works in conjunction with the body.  Adding green tea to your healthy eating plan is enough to enjoy the effects of the ingredients in the tea.  Drinking the tea reduces the appetite too.
The blood sugar remains stable when green tea is drunk on a regular basis.  Essentially, it helps you to feel full longer, and keeps you from being hungry all the time.
Again, any liquid will help you achieve this effect, so long as it does not have too many calories in it.

Grapefruit replaces the starch in the meal.  Most vegetables can be eaten because they have a low carbohydrate count and are low in calories.
Corn, lima beans, potatoes, and sweet potatoes are vegetables that in contrast have higher carbohydrate counts and so should be substituted with green leafy vegetables.  Salads and lean meat can be added for lunch and dinner.
Not many calories are consumed on this diet.  But keep in mind that when calorie consumption falls below 1,000, it is hard for the body to work properly.  This is too few calories for basic cellular function.
Remember that if the body perceives that it is in starvation mode, it will hold on to those fat stores and extra weight will be that much harder to get rid of.
You need to consume enough calories, and keep burning more, for rapid weight loss, which you can use as the stepping stone to get more fight and healthy and lose more weight sensibly over time. It is a good diet for people who want rapid results.
Twelve days may be too long for this plan.  Without enough calories, it becomes hard to concentrate.  Tiredness and dizziness can become a problem.  In essence, it is dangerous to make this kind of drastic change to the body for a long time.
Let the grapefruit diet go the way of other fad diets.  If special events come up often, look for a weight loss plan that offers permanent weight loss.  Eat grapefruits at breakfast when you feel like it, not just because many say it will aid in quick weight loss.
Also keep in mind that grapefruit has an effect on the way you metabolize some medications. In some instances, it makes the medicine more potent, while in others, in can interfere with absorption in the bloodstream if you take the medicine with grapefruit or grapefruit juice, and this effect can last for up to two hours after you have consumed the grapefruit.
So if you do decide to opt for the grapefruit siet, don’t take your medications within that two hour window.

The Grapefruit diet is another fad diet which is more of a detox, and helps with rapid weight loss.
A diet based on grapefruit consumption for weight loss is not and should not be considered a long term diet plan.  The diet plan is designed to last for twelve days at a time.
The grapefruit diet dates back to the days of early Hollywood.  The diet has changed over the decades, but it’s basis is still that of a fad diet.
The grapefruit diet is intended for quick weight loss.  If you want to lose weight for a special occasion that lasts one night only, this diet ranks right up there with the Cabbage Soup diet in terms of quickly slimming you down by helping you get rid of excess water weight.
Grapefruits have been found to have properties that affect the body’s metabolism.  The grapefruit can actually help to speed up the metabolism which translates into more calories burned.
Grapefruits are considered a low glycemic index food.  That means that it stabilizes the blood sugar which controls the appetite.  It is a low enevrgy density food and it is a known diuretic (removes excess fluids from the body).
The grapefruit diet can be followed for twelve days with a two week break between cycles.  Since the diet is a quick fix trend diet, performing it regularly is not healthy or wise.  A quick drop in weight for an event is one thing, but becoming a regular grapefruit dieter is not good.
Grapefruits are eaten with each meal.  There aren’t a lot of carbohydrates with this plan.  You can eat eggs and bacon for breakfast minus the toast, but don’t forget the grapefruit.

Exercise is important to the eDiets plan.  Physical activity at least three days a week will expend more calories than you take in and start the weight loss process.  Choose the exercise that is right for you so that you will stick to it day in and day out.
eDiets claims a two pound weight loss following their plans.  This is a healthy weight loss if you want a permanent solution to the weight problem.
More weight may be lost at first because of the change in eating habits, but it will average out over time.
Keep in mind that any diet that claims more than this is not healthy or practical, and would be near starvation, since it takes 3500 calories burned to lose one pound.
The average woman takes in 2000 calories a day, the average man, 2500. To lose 2 pounds a week would mean cutting and/or burning 7000 in that week. It is not impossible, but it is not easy on any diet.

People with specific health issues may also find a plan for them at eDiets.  If the eating restrictions are many, another eating plan may be more suited, however.

But, The Dr. Phil diet emphasis is on our mental state.  Our approach to losing weight should be the same as our approach to anything else – discover the underlying problem, make a plan for success, follow the steps of the plan, and find success.
For anyone looking for a step by step eating or exercise plan, you may find better luck with another plan. If you also know what your obstacles are to losing weight, all this psychobabble may just annoy the hell out of you.
Dr. Phil’s diet plan will get you in touch with yourself, but will not give you the specifics that you seek.
He does have a line of supplements to offer you, but supplements can be tricky.  Your primary physician can tell you if specific supplements are safe for you to take.
And basically, if weight loss were as easy as taking a pill, we would all be thin. So unless you are in the mood for soul searching about you and food, this will  not be the most helpful diet you have ever been on.

We first met Dr. Phil on the Oprah Winfrey Show.  He is a medical psychiatric professional who helped people on her show.  Now he has his own show and his own diet plan for weight loss.
Dr. Phil likes to get to the heart of a problem.  He works best by helping people to identify what makes them act the way they do.
By helping them to realize the triggers in their life, they learn to face their problems head on and therefore find the proper solutions.
He is attempting to do this with his weight loss regimen book.  Dr. Phil’s book is about finding the weight loss solution that works for you personally.
Since there is no one solution for all people, his book concentrates on showing people how to achieve their own weight loss, and freedom from food.
Changing the way we think will help to change the way we eat.  Healthy thinking and healthy eating go hand in hand.  Dr. Phil’s diet concentrates on a healthy mind as the way to a healthy body.    He discusses what makes people eat more, and how to control those situations.
Dr. Phil’s diet is based around our entire life, not just when we eat.  To lose weight we must take control of those triggers that are causing us to gain weight in the first place.  An understanding of one’s self leads to a desire to lose weight and achieve success at it.
Of course, some of us do have medical reasons as to why it is hard to lose weight, and it has to be said, Dr. Phil is not exactly thin himself.
The Dr. Phil diet is generic in its scope.  We all know that we need balanced meals with carbohydrates, fat, and protein.  These nutrients need to be eaten in a ratio that will lower our caloric intake.  We know that fast food is not good for us because of the fat content.
