Choosing The Right Pet For You Part 3

Choosing a Cat

Cats on the other hand can pretty much amuse themselves most of the time,  as compared with dogs, and as long as you put your valuables away, they will not get into too much  mischief.

They like and need varying degrees of attention depending on breed and personality, and they might also need some grooming depending on their coat.

Cats will sleep, look out windows, and play with toys while you are away, and they can be left for weekends at times with enough food and water to tide them over. They like to cli,b, and scratch, so a low cat tree is a good idea, doubling as a claw post and a place to sleep and even to play.

You need to take them to the vet for a regular check up and vaccinations.  You also need to choose the right food for their breed and age.

Cats can live quite a long time, at an average of about 14 years if they are an indoor housecat only.

They do have some health issues, and can have hairball issues and be destructive with their claws, but again, they are not as high maintenance as a dog, and they can certainly be a lifelong, fun companion without all the training and hard work. There are certainly plenty of cats in the shelters looking for a good home.
