For proper outflow, the angle needs to be open in a way that the fluid will flow through small holes, as in a sieve.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin-bottom: 12pt\">In breeds predisposed to glaucoma, there is usually a narrow angle or inadequate holes in the sieve (known as goniodysgenesis).<\/p>\n<p><strong>Symptoms of Glaucoma in Pets to look out for.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><span style=\"font-family: Symbol\">\u00b7<\/span><span>\u00a0 <\/span>A red eye<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><span style=\"font-family: Symbol\">\u00b7<\/span><span>\u00a0 <\/span>A very squinty and painful eye<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><span style=\"font-family: Symbol\">\u00b7<\/span><span>\u00a0 <\/span>A lot of tearing<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><span style=\"font-family: Symbol\">\u00b7<\/span><span>\u00a0 <\/span>A dilated pupil that doesn\u2019t react to light<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><span style=\"font-family: Symbol\">\u00b7<\/span><span>\u00a0 <\/span>A cloudy (whitish\/blue) <a href=\"http:\/\/www.petplace.com\/dogs\/what-to-do-if-your-dog-gets-glaucoma\/page1.aspx\" target=\"_new\"><span class=\"klink\"><span style=\"font-size: 10pt; font-family: Verdana\">cornea<\/span><\/span><\/a> (front surface of the eye)<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><span style=\"font-family: Symbol\">\u00b7<\/span><span>\u00a0 <\/span>A big, bulging eye (a condition known as buphthalmia)<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin-bottom: 12pt\"><span style=\"font-family: Symbol\">\u00b7<\/span><span>\u00a0 <\/span>Vision loss<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin-bottom: 12pt\">Be especially vigilant during allergy season. If the redness persists more than a day or two, definitely take your pet to the vet.<\/p>\n<p>Glaucoma generally only affects one eye initially. Depending on the cause, the other eye may be at risk for developing glaucoma in the future.<\/p>\n<p>Many diseases can cause a red, squinty, teary and cloudy eye, but glaucoma should always be considered as a cause.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 12pt; font-family: 'Times New Roman'\">Frequently, when the pressure is high, pets are in a lot of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.petplace.com\/dogs\/what-to-do-if-your-dog-gets-glaucoma\/page1.aspx\" target=\"_new\"><span class=\"klink\"><span style=\"font-size: 10pt; font-family: Verdana\">pain<\/span><\/span><\/a> and hold the eye closed or keep the third eyelid (a pink\/red membrane) up over the eye, making it difficult to assess.
