Spitzer Sex Scandal

I’m sorry, but are we the only ones here NOT surprised by the revelations of the Spitzer sex scandal?

His self-righteous bullying and hunger for power were always signs of an unbalanced mind and addiction to power. Sexual addiction is just another form of that same addiction, the need for affirmation, the need to be right, to be in control.

Did he think that somehow he was above the law? Clearly, yes. He thinks is IS the law. Witness the way he hounded Martha Stewart. Was what SHE did WORSE than what he’s done? In which case, there will be NO DEAL. HE should get whatever he has coming to him, and THEN some.

As for the wife, well, the hell with ‘stand by your man’—we are sick of seeing these pathetic losers being bolstered by their strong, supportive, sacrificing wives.Take the slime for every penny he is worth, honey!

What is even more astounding is that he saw the whole unraveling of the New Jersey Governor over his ‘falling for his intern’, and of course what Bill Clinton went through. Personally, those situations are FAR more understandable and forgivable—you meet, work together, spark, an office flirtation becomes a bit unacceptable, but there are FEELINGS involved, mutual feelings. $80,000 for “paid companionship”?

The guy is a desperately sad loser by comparison with Clinton and McGreevey, and even more so because McGreevey ‘outed’ himself, literally, because he was ‘in love.’ Not because he was caught on a Federal wire tap and was about to be indicted. Confession to save your own ass and try to salvage your political career is even lower than what he was already getting up to!

And then tried to hang on as Governor to ‘try to cut a deal’-more like worm his way out of prison, AND, if Publisher’s Weekly is to be believed, to cut a book deal about his fall from grace. We are sure this sad story will only become more deplorable over time.

However, every cloud has a silver lining. The people of New York State are now being freed from this megalomaniac who would make a Jesuit Grand Inquistor look like a liberal, to David Paterson, a man whom no one has a bad word to say against. Which, for a man who has been in Harlem politics and State senate politics for over 2 decades, is a rare thing indeed.

And I have to say, it makes a compelling argument for more women to get involved in the political process. We may have “attitude” and wear macho pant suits, but at least we don’t spend a small fortune of what look to be campaign contributions on “banging whores” as David Letterman puts it.

Congratulations to the FBI and New York State for exposing Spitzer for the pathetic fraud and criminal he really is. Let him see how he likes being someone’s bitch at Sing Sing.

Setting Your Budget for Your Wedding Favors- Part 4

THE HUNT FOR THE PERFECT WEDDING FAVOR—AT THE BEST PRICE

Once you feel you have your budget set, you can start looking for appropriate gifts. There is a dazzling array of websites, on this topic, so you are sure to find several wedding favors you really like. The key thing is to work out your budget and stick to it, so that your research will not be wasted time and effort. If you start to second-guess yourself, you will have to start all over again with your wedding favor budget and research.

Many websites which feature wedding favors will offer a number of search parameters to help you narrow down your search for the right wedding favor. Sort by unit price, by keyword, and possibly also by color. Print out the ones you really like; often they will have manufacturer’s details and a unique identifier number.

Once you have narrowed it down to 2 or three wedding favors, dig a bit deeper again. What is included in the price at each site you have found the favor at: gift box, free wrapping, and so on. Comparison shop at different sites and even start a spreadsheet noting down these differences so you can compare side by side.

There are other ways to make your wedding favors even more affordable.

Ask the site if they reduced pricing for bulk orders. Or, if they are just a middleman, not the distributor, see if you can contact the distributor directly to ask about any cost breaks. You might even consider contacting the manufacturer to see if it is possible to place a bulk order with them directly.

Available discounts may not always be advertised on wedding favor websites or in their advertisements. There is no harm in asking for a discount, especially if it is a large order.

And in this day and age, when every penny counts, they might be more than glad to shave a few cents off or give free shipping if the value of the order is high enough.

The world of wedding favors changes rapidly too according to fashion, and seasons. You may be able to get a closeout or discontinued line of wedding favors for a fraction of the price. If you are planning ahead well in advance for, say, a Valentine’s Wedding, you might start looking the year before to see what bargains you can pick up (then you just have to worry aout storage!)

As for customization, on the whole, try to avoid it unless you are getting a really good deal, since it can all add up. If you must go for that something a little bit special, try ribbon printed with your names and dates, which can be used for wrapping any gift, for flowers and bouquets, balloons, whatever. Go for your wedding colors, and look at the price by the yard or roll, and make sure you check how many yards are on each roll. Again, comparison shop for everything and stick to your budget.

Now that we have setting your budget for your wedding favors, we can get to the fun part-selecting your wedding favors!

Selecting Your Wedding Favors: The Gift that Keeps on Giving Part 2

The Price of Wedding Favors

Price is one of the most important factors a couple must consider when selecting wedding favors. This is crucial because the price will often dictate the quality of the favors.

While you can purchase some great favors inexpensively, you will likely have to plan your budget carefully and then follow through with a fair amount of comparison shopping to find the best deal on the wedding favor of your choice.

The first key part of this whole process is the research, and the second is being realistic.

For example you may have an idea of what you want to give, for example, a little picture frame, which will eventually hold a snapshot of your big day once they are ready and you have the chance to mail them (along with your thank you card, but make sure you don’t leave your thank yous too long after the wedding, or you will be considered rude.

A picture frame is a great gift idea, but it does not always hold up in the mail if you have to send wedding favors to people. More importantly, it might out of your budget range.

But you may find other great items such as a fridge magnet picture frame, often in durable plastic, perhaps even customized with your names and special date, are well within your budget.

You may also be pleasantly surprised to find out that picture frames available from one distributor are too expensive, but another distributor has enough picture frames in their closeout stock for you to purchase favors just right for your wedding.

It is easy to be dazzled by the array of wedding favors, but try not to get your heart set on any one thing, in case they are out of stock or discontinued. Try to plan well in advance, to avoid disappointment. It will also help you cut the best deal for your wedding favors. Often a wholesaler will be willing to give you a better deal on closeouts, discontinued items, or a large bulk order.

Make sure you set your budget and stick to it, and try not to be too disappointed about the items you cannot afford. Instead focus on finding the best favor you can afford, for the best price.

A Scottish Honeymoon: romance, mystery, castles and ghosts Part 1

A Scottish honeymoon is your chance to experience a wildly romantic and varied landscape. If you love cities and the countryside, and don’t mind the rain, Scotland is a great honeymoon destination. From its historic and vibrant cities, to its stunning landscapes and enchanting islands in the north and west, Scotland is unforgettable once you’ve visited.
Scotland’s three main cities are Glasgow, Edinburgh and Aberdeen. Although Glasgow is the capital, it is Edinburgh in the south east, not too far over the border with England, that attracts the most international and local visitors.

The annual International Festival every August is the only time you will find accommodation difficult, so if you plan to go that month, make sure you make your arrangements well in advance.

Edinburgh

Edinburgh has a rich variety of architecture and Edinburgh Castle is a must-see. The former home to the Scottish Royal Family, it is full of many of the great treasures of Scotland.

The whole of the city is steeped in history. There is nothing quite like walking the Royal Mile. The city has many medieval and Georgian buildings, and is a vibrant, lively center with much to interest the tourist trying to cram in as much food, drink and culture as possible in a short space of time.
Glasgow, once very run down and poverty-stricken, has enjoyed a exciting revival over the last two decades. It is a fun and lively city, with a great amount to see and do. Alongside the many museums, art galleries, monuments and shops is Glasgow cathedral, a Gothic masterpiece. It is also not far from the border with England, but is situated in the south-west.
The port city of Aberdeen in the north-east is built almost exclusively of silvery granite, which glistens the in sun or rain. Hence the name, the Granite City. There is a wonderful maritime museum alongside a prestigious art gallery, and impressive universities. It has a distinct feel to it due to it being a transport hub for many of the oil rigs on the North Sea.

Some Reasons Why You Should Consider Investing for Retirement Now

Investing for the future has become increasingly important in recent years, as the future of social security benefits becomes increasingly unknown. It has also become much more of a burden on the individual, as corporate investment schemes have either fallen prey to unscrupulous executives, or have become just another perk to vanish from the workplace in all but the most robust corporations.

It is logical to want to protect your futures given the many examples we can see daily of people who thought they had done everything they could to provide for their retirement, only to find that they had fallen short in some way.

We also need to consider the fact that the average life expectancy is 81 years for men, and 84 years for women.

With people living longer than ever before, this puts a strain on social security. With health care costs soaring as never before, we not only have to consider our living expense, but ongoing health, housing, long-term care, and even death expenses.

Many people might believe that they have set aside enough to be well off, only to be faced with rising inflation and unexpected events like soaring gas costs.

Retirement calculators tell you that when you retire, you’ll only need about a third of what you were earning. But is that realistic?

Many retirees are actually carrying credit card debt to try to make ends meet, and social security is actually taxable.

Investing now is the best answer to the unknown questions of the future.

You may have been saving money in a low interest savings account over the years. Now, you want to see that money grow at a faster pace.

Perhaps you’ve inherited some money or realized some other type of windfall, and you’d like to find a way to make that money grow. Again, investing can be part of the answer.

Investing is also a way of attaining the things that you want, such as a new home, a college education for your children, or luxury items such as a new car, second home, or boat.

Of course, your financial goals will determine what type of investing you do, which is why we recommend in this series of articles that before you invest in anything, you sit down and make a list of your investment goals.

Once you are clear on your investing goals, then you can decide on the kind of investment strategy that will help you meet those goals.

For instance, if you want or need to make a lot of money fast, you would be more interested in higher risk investing, which will give you a larger return in a shorter amount of time.  Greater risks bring greater rewards.

If you are saving for something in the far off future, such as retirement, you would want to make safer investments that grow over a longer period of time.

The overall purpose in investing is to create wealth and security by having your money earn interest, and that interest snowballing to create still more wealth.

It is important to remember that you will not always be able to or wish to earn an income–you will eventually want to retire. It’s also important to consider that there a lots of different ways to pay for a college education, for example, such as scholarships, but little or no financial assistance of that or any other sort when we retire.

Therefore, in terms of goal setting, your retirement, rather than your kids’ college education, should always be at the top of your list.

In these precarious financial times, it is no longer a safe bet to count on the social security system to be there for you and meet all your needs in the future. Even if it were working well, the amount per month is not exactly conducive to a luxurious lifestyle.

As we have seen with Enron, you also cannot necessarily depend on your company’s retirement plan either.

So, again, investing is the key to insuring your own financial future, but you must make smart investments. That means educating yourself with your goals firmly in mind, and carefully setting out a road map which will help you reach your intended destination, without getting lost.

With so much free information now available, and investing easier than ever before thanks to online tools, you might be tempted to just launch in. But just as no one expects you to ride a bike successfully your first try, so too with investing. Study, gain knowledge, look at what you can realistically afford to invest—or lose!

Investing can bring great rewards, but you always need to balance it with possible risks. However, these risks can pay off if you are prepared to put in the work to achieve your financial goals.
